Amazon.com Review

Todd Wilbur, the master of fast food replication, is back, and accompanying him are 37 new recipes. More Top Secret Recipes follows triumphantly in the footsteps of his first tryout with kitchen clones, Top Secret Recipes. Included in this new collection are recipes that fans steadfastly demanded--including A&W Root Beer and an easy concoction for creating the perfect Oreo in less than an hour. All that's needed for this magical cookie is cake mix, shortening, sugar, and vanilla. Simplicity is the key to success for all of Wilbur's duplicates--nothing more than simple ingredients and basic cooking skills are required. Other culinary clones include Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls, Little Caesar's Crazy Bread, and a divine recipe for Bailey's Original Irish Cream. Quirky diagrams of these tempting bites illustrate the book throughout. Snack time has never been this much fun! --Naomi Gesinger

From Booklist

America's love affair with fast food is once again addressed by Wilbur in his sequel to Top Secret Recipes. In response to readers, another 50 foods are dissected, probed, prodded, examined, and refashioned to create taste clones of such treats as Oreo cookies, M&M/Mars almond bar, Snapple ice tea, and McDonald's quarter pounder. Each recipe includes a brief history of the manufacturer and the specific foodstuff, as well as an engineering-like line drawing of the recipe's assembly. Simple directions are supported by the use of packaged or frozen food ingredients, such as pizza dough and canned kidney beans. At the beginning, the author addresses the low-fat versus junk-food controversy. Barbara Jacobs

Food hacker and host of CMT's "Top Secret Recipe," Todd Wilbur is the author of a series of unique cookbooks which reveal simple secret recipes for creating home versions of America's most popular brand-name foods. With over 5 million Top Secret Recipes books in print, Todd designs each recipe through careful research, trial-and-error, creative reverse-engineering, and obsession. Readers will not only be fascinated with the back stories and impressed with the accuracy of the formulas, but will also find that they can save money when recreating these signature dishes at home and will enjoy the ability to now customize their favorite foods to suit specific diets and health concerns.

Todd has appeared on numerous talk shows in the 28 years he has been cloning famous foods, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Oz, Today Show, Live! with Regis & Kathie Lee, Good Morning America, Fox News, Rachael Ray, Maury, and The Food Network. Season 1 of "Top Secret Recipe" debuted on CMT in October, 2011. When not taste-testing recipes on himself, his wife, his friends, and TV talk show hosts, Todd is busy teaching his 7-year-old daughter how to identify herbs in a sauce at their home in Las Vegas, NV.

Bought this for the Cinnabon recipe

Bought this for the Cinnabon recipe
Shameless confession: Bought this cookbook solely for the Cinnabon recipe. Never made cinnamon rolls before; whipped these up for a New Year's Day morning treat. Excellent instructions, and yes they came out huge, fluffy, gooey and *exactly* like Cinnabon. The other recipes look like fun but I honestly haven't tried any others yet. The recipes themselves are laid out very well, complete with drawings. Great introduction, especially for anyone wondering why the heck someone would want to make their own fast food. Really fun book! I'm thinking Popeyes Chicken next...

I absolutely love the recipes that Todd Wilbur does. I find most of the recipes to be very good clones, with some to be either spot on or even better than the originals. Additionally, I love the fact that almost all of the recipes use ingredients that MOST everyday consumers would have in their homes, instead of rare & exotic ingredients that cost insane amounts of money & are only available for 2 weeks out of the year... In specific regional locations (Anyone who is more than a novice cook knows what I'm talking about here). I have since purchased at least 6 of Todd Wilbur's books & although a few of the books have duplicate recipes, I am very happy to keep experimenting with these wonderful & easy to follow recipes.

I LOVE this book simply because I've been trying to recreate popeye's fried chicken on my own and failed miserably! I checked the table of contents and found it was there and that alone was worth the $9 investment. I'm not going to make everything but its fun to see how you could make Mary Jane's. :D

Check the table of contents first, then if there's a recipe you would like, take a chance. Most times, its pretty good!

Oh and the chicken recipe? Its not exactly right but it's pretty darn close and makes really good spicy fried chicken!
