MyBargainBuddy lost a very special member last week. Diane passed away suddenly in her home at the age of 62. Doctors suspect heart attack or stroke.

Since the day she joined our forum, Diane was an active member. Even though she was on dial-up, she managed to rack up 58,368 posts over the last 2 years and 9 months. That's an everage of 58 posts per day! If you've ever visited our freebie forum, you've seen Diane in action!

I was shocked to hear this news and greatly saddened. Diane will be missed. I would like to honor her by featuring her in the spotlight once again.

If anyone is interested, in lieu of cards or flowers, her brother requested that gifts be made in memory of Diane Sivacek to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/docroot/DON/DON_1_Donate_Online_Now_Auto_Custom.asp?don_promo= WebMem). Diane's sister died from cancer several years ago and they were very close.

I'd like to thank Grams for letting us know. It is so nice that our members look out for one another. We have such a special group of people here.

I am not sure what seafood is easy to get in Virginia, but I remember having a crab dip in South Carolina (very bland to my Louisiana taste buds), so here is a crab recipe from the site. Rex is the main king of Mardi Gras.


Crab Cakes Rex
PREP TIME: 30 Minutes
SERVES: 8

COMMENT:
Normally in Bayou Country crab cakes are dense in texture due to the amount of breadcrumbs in the recipe. Personally, I appreciate a higher crabmeat content so I’ve cut back the breadcrumbs for a looser texture.

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound lump crabmeat
3 tbsps butter
1/2 cup onions, diced
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup red bell peppers, diced
1/4 cup garlic, diced
1 cup seasoned Italian breadcrumbs
1/4 cup green onions, minced
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 egg
2 tbsps parsley, minced
2 tsps Worcestershire sauce
2 tsps lemon juice
2 tbsps Old Bay seasoning
1 tsp Creole mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
hot sauce to taste
½ cup Italian breadcrumbs for dusting
¼ cup vegetable oil

METHOD:
Using your fingers, pick through crabmeat to remove any shell or cartilage. In a sauté pan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add onions, celery, bell peppers and garlic. Sauté 3-5 minutes or until vegetables are wilted. Remove and allow to cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, combine sautéed vegetables along with all remaining ingredients except crabmeat. Gently fold in crabmeat with your fingers, continually checking for shell or cartilage. Blend carefully into the breadcrumb mixture until all ingredients are well incorporated. Adjust seasonings if necessary. Gently form crab mixture into a 1" x 2 1/2" patty, dust lightly with breadcrumbs and place on a cookie sheet. Place in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour. In a sauté pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once oil is hot, sauté crab cakes 2-3 minutes on each side, turning each cake over gently so they don't fall apart.

Place crab cake in the center of a dinner plate and top with white or red rémoulade sauce.

It's more exciting then when I won a queen contest (many years ago LOL).

Thanks to everyone for the accolades. It's been easy to love this place
because of all of you. I can't get through a day without stopping by MBB
several times to see what's up, who's won a contest, checking out those
great freebies especially the :0party0006: FREE FOOD :0party0006: , and
sharing with all of you. Not to bring anyone down, but when I joined I
was grieving over the loss of my dear sister and you all gave encouragement and love to a total stranger...how wonderful that was. I will always smile

Karen thank you so much for putting Diane back in the spotlight. Diane was such an awesome lady and she was an inspiration to many, she stood up for what she believed in and was the first to lend a helping hand when a buddy was down. I wish there was a way for her family to know how much so many of us here loved Diane. We have shared a lot with Diane here on MBB. She was fun in the games, found us TONS of freebies and bargains. This place won't be the same without our "Pepper". She was one of my many friends from the start of MBB. She is in Heaven rejoicing with her sister, they are finally reunited, I know Diane missed her terribly. We shared our pain of missing our loved ones. When I came to MBB I was never knew I would end up healing my broken heart (from losing my 3 yr old son to cancer) through so many special friends, I have said it before and will say it again, this isn't just a place for bargains, it is so much more.

It is good to finally see Peppers face, she is a BEAUTIFUL lady, inside and out.
I can say that I have never gotten teary eyes over someones passing that I never really knew, but as I am typing this I am crying, she was such a special person on the boards to me. Stunned by the news, and saddened. Under a chit-chat heading a couple of years ago, we all listed how much time we spent online (or on MBB, I forget). Mine was the smallest, Pepper's was by far the largest number. She spent a hell of a lot of time in other words catering to us freebie lovers, survey users, etc. and we all thank her for that. I do hope she found pleasure in her relentless searches...I'm sure it was a labour of love, despite the often 5 am start. She was always just around the corner, keeping a critical motherly eye on all of us and our posts.... Some of the posts here suggest she has gone to a better place and I wonder why this was stated, as to my limited knowledge she didn't have a chronic physical condition. R.I.P. Diane.

Diane's pseudonym of "Pepper" was so apt! Pepper could certainly have a bit of a spicy personality, but she had a great sense of humor and, the most wonderful thing about Pepper was that she would state her beliefs and stand behind them! No wallflower, she! Sometimes that could be a little irritating and I know there were occasional "issues," but Pepper loved this place and loved providing all of us with freebies, sweepstakes, surveys and information. She's prolly looking down on us and chuckling, wondering how we're gonna fill the gap she's left.

Because Pepper was always a bit of the sunshine at MBB, her passing reminds me a little of that Johnny Cash song, "Lucky Old Sun"

I can't thank you enough for doing that. I am sure her family knows she meant the world to us, but for them to be able to see in writing what she meant to us has to be special to them.

Diane sweetie we will all miss you so very much but your light will shine on MDF! Yes it is ok to cry. I have cried enough this afternoon for all of us as has everyone else. Diane will be greatly missed but she is in a much better place and I know she knows how much we loved her and how much we will miss her. I wasnt here when Pepper passed but I have been sitting here reading all the tributes to her and balling my eyes out. She will for ever be in each and everyone of our hearts. She was huge part of the MBB family. And I will miss her dearly.

WELL IT IS THE DAY AFTER BUT I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO POST EARLY THIS MORNING A TRIBUTE TO OUR BELOVED PEPPER. IT KEPT GETTING PUT IN HER SPOTLIGHT THREAD AND NO ONE SAW IT. OTHERS POST ABOUT PRAYER REQUESTS FOR NEIGHBORS AND FAMILYS. OTHERS POST HELP REQUESTS.....WHY I CAN'T POST AN HONOR AND MEMORY TO PEPPER I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN WITH US POSTING LIKE CRAZY TODAY AND I STILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO HONOR HER ON THIS DAY.
SHE IS NOT ON VACATION, MANY THREADS ARE ABOUT WONDERING ABOUT PEOPLE ON VACATION, WHERE ARE THEY, ETC. WELL PEPPER IS GONE GONE GONE.....PERIOD AND IF I CAN'T HAVE A THREAD IN HER HONOR THEN AS SHE WOULD SAY "SCREW IT"

Thank you Belinda. I am just so upset that I could not pay a new years tribute to her. It still keeps going in her old spotlight thread.

I wanted everyone to say a Happy New Years and also to the ones that won nice prizes and freebies, just to say thanks.

If she only knew then how much she was loved.......but she loved to dance and I loved her laugh......that's why I wanted everyone to share some comments, not about her being in a better place as was in the spotlight thread, but about our memories of 2008 of her. Darn if she didn't pm me that this would be such a great year(2008). She would have loved to hear our memories and would be cracking up.....she loved life, always found the bright humours side of things.

OMG in heaven... I was just going thru some cards she sent me..... She always sent me holiday and birthday cards and usually a sample or something or two.

This is heartbraking. She was such an awesome person.
